Intro

This guide walks through creating a "Word of the Day" recurring campaign that automatically updates with fresh content each day. Instead of manually cloning and scheduling campaigns in Klaviyo daily, we'll automate the entire process.

Here's the approach in 3 steps:

Create and publish a daily data feed
Connect that feed to Klaviyo and use in an email template
Set up a recurring campaign in Cadence to handle the daily creation and scheduling

Here's what the Word of the Day email will look like at the end.

Step 1: Create and publish your daily data feed

In Google Sheets, create a sheet with one row per date. Include at least a date column. For this example, add columns: date, word, definition, part_of_speech, synonyms, and example_sentence.
Publish the sheet as CSV: File > Share > Publish to the web > CSV. Copy the CSV URL.
In Napkin.io, clone this function: Add to your Functions.
In Other > Environment Variables, set GOOGLE_SHEETS_URL to your CSV URL.
Deploy the function. Open the function URL in a browser and confirm it returns today’s row as JSON.

Step 2: Connect the feed to Klaviyo

In Klaviyo, go to Settings > Other > Web Feeds, then click Add web feed.
Name the feed, for example SATWordOfTheDay. Paste the Napkin function URL. Leave Request method and Content type as default.

💡

Klaviyo's web feed preview UI may display fields in camelCase, even if your feed uses snake_case. Stick with snake_case in your templates.

3. In your email template, reference feed fields with Django syntax anywhere you need them — text blocks, HTML blocks, image URLs, etc. For example, to render today's word's definition:

Use “Preview and Test” to render with the latest feed pull. If something looks off, it’s likely a template or field-name mismatch—fix before moving on.

Step 3: Schedule the recurring series in Cadence

In Cadence, click “Create Recurring Campaign”. Then go through these 4 easy steps:

Setup: Give it a clear name and select the audience list or segment.
Content: Select the Klaviyo template you created in Step 2. Add a compelling subject line. Consider including date or personalization variables.
Schedule: Choose the start date, daily send time, and time zone. Enable UTM parameters so you can attribute clicks to this series.
Review: Create a Klaviyo preview campaign to sanity‑check rendering, then click Create recurring campaign.

That’s it! Cadence will handle the day‑to‑day sending. Your “X of the Day” series is live.

Troubleshooting tips

If fields render empty, verify your sheet has a row for today’s date and that the published CSV includes it.
If template variables show literally in the email, re-check the Django syntax and field casing.
